The Different Types of HVAC Systems

Split-Type Air Conditioners

This system is built in one large cabinet with all of the major components inside it. It is popular in houses with no basements. It is also a good choice for offices and residential areas that do not have space for a split-type air conditioner, which makes HVAC installation easier. All packaged systems have a blower that draws unpurified air into the system.

Packaged HVAC systems are only used when split-type air conditioners are not available. One advantage is that they do not make that much noise because the mechanical parts are outside. However, the downside of a packaged HVAC system is that it does not have as many options as split-type ones. It is also less efficient. Since the parts are outside, they are exposed to weather conditions and tend to break down easily.

Ductless Split-Type Systems

The ductless system provides an alternative when a standard duct type is not compatible. This type consists of an outside air conditioner for cooling or a heat pump for heating and cooling. The indoor piece has a fan for spreading cool air in the room. They can be installed on ceilings, floors, and even walls.

They are ideal for residential areas or offices that do not have an existing ductwork system. The efficiency of this type of system ranges from good to excellent, so they can reduce energy costs and use. One of the disadvantages of owning a ductless split-type system is that it is not suitable for cold climates. It also offers a limited range of options compared to standard split types.

Hybrid Heat Pumps / Geothermal Systems

Hybrid heating and cooling systems work by burning natural gases, fuel oil, and propane using a heat pump combined with the furnace. They can also be used in reverse to efficiently warm your house.

These types of systems are efficient. They can be four times as efficient as other standard systems. The only concern about hybrid heat pumps or geothermal systems is their price, which can be two to five times that of a traditional system.
